Fred Thompson Leads Poll

Survey Results The eleventh week of the Pajamas Media Presidential Straw Poll has officially begun.

You may vote once a week, using the voting startionat the top of the right column of this blog.
The tenth week saw a large shift in the poll. On the Republican side, newcomer Fred Thompson emerged in first with 34.9% followed by Ron Paul at 29.00%. Previous winner Rudy Giuliani fell back to third with 12.7%. (On the Democratic side, results remained the same: Bill Richardson far ahead of runner-up Barack Obama. What does the ascendancy of Fred Thompson and Ron Paul mean? Is this an Internet (early adopter) harbinger of things to come? In the case of Thompson, we think this is indeed a possibility. The former Tennessee senator-slash-prosecutor-slash-movie-and-television-star has… despite being undeclared … fared quite well on other polls. On the latest Fox News Poll he is ahead of the declared Romney and the undeclared Gingrich, ditto on the Gallup Poll.

Qaddafi Calls for Establishment of New Fatimid State

MEMRI reported In his speech, Qaddafi denounced the division of Muslims into Sunni and Shi'ite as a colonialist plot, and rebuked the Arab League members for "hating Iran."

Make up your mind. Earlier he said "As for Arabs, may God keep them happy and far away" as he explained why he ignored an Arab summit.
.... Today there is a divide [in the Islamic world] that we must acknowledge, and we must know who is deepening it. Perhaps it is colonialism, the enemy of Islam, the enemy of the Arabs, the enemy of the Persians, that is deepening it… "They have divided Islam into two Islams, and there came to be Shi'ite Islam and Sunni Islam. This is a forbidden innovation [bid'a]… When did Muhammad say: 'I have brought you Shi'ite Islam and Sunni Islam?
It was upon the death of Muhammad that the Shi'ite vs Sunni split occurred, as they fought over who should be in control. It had nothing to do with colonialism. It was Muslims fighting Muslims as to who should be in power.
... "When we come to religious authority… have [people] not gotten themselves into a mess and said that the Sunnis are against the Shi'ites
Arab Sunnis and Arab Shi'ites are killing each other in Iraq, and yes the largely Arab Sunni world is concerned about the Persian Shi'ites in Iran.
and the Arabs against the Persians? Who holds to this view?
A LOT of Muslims.
It is the foreign occupation and the Zionist settlement that brought this.
How did the establishment in 1948 of a Jewish State cause the Shi'ite - Sunni split that followed the death of Muhammad?
.... "[And we are not interested anymore] in who had more right to the Caliphate, 'Ali or Mu'awiya.
You may not be interested, but the Shi'ites and the Sunnis sure care.
The Caliphate has nothing to do with religion,
False. That is the problem with Islam. It does not have separation of state vs religion.
and this is a worldly struggle for rule. If they decided after the Prophet who would be ruler, it was because the Prophet was not a ruler.
He certainly was a conquorer and a warrior that took over other countries.
He was a prophet, that's it, and then he passed on. He was a prophet, and he died, without a son, a successor, a regent [wasiy], or a representative…

Bush Bypasses Dems to Name Ambassador

Forbes.com reported President Bush named Republican fundraiser Sam Fox as U.S. ambassador to Belgium on Wednesday, using a maneuver that allowed him to bypass Congress where Democrats had derailed Fox's nomination.
The "maneuver" is called The Constitution which says "The President shall have power to fill up all vacancies that may happen during the recess of the Senate, by granting commissions which shall expire at the end of their next session."

The surge is working

The surge is working says ABC News

The Dems have known that it probably would; that is why they are rushing so hard to withhold funding so that maybe it will fail. Because if it works, their chances of taking over in 2008 are significantly lower.

Sensible Mom blogged Uh, Oh, ABC News Is Gonna Be In Trouble

Anchoress blogged So, naturally, cutting off the funding is precisely what victory-inclined Democrats think we should do

Sister Maria Rosa Leggol

Thanks to Anchoress for this story from National Catholic Reporter every so often a particular Catholic woman's vision and accomplishments make her a celebrity. Such was the case with Mother Teresa, and in the small Central American nation of Honduras, such is the case with another formidable nun: Franciscan Sr. S, founder of the Sociedad Amigos de los NiƱos...... Leggol's confidence in divine providence is legendary, if also sometimes a bit frustrating to her more practical-minded associates, who wonder how they're going to pay the bills and care for all the kids she agrees to receive. (Her motto is, "We always have room for one more.")

To take just one example, Leggol used to be a frequent visitor to the main penitentiary in Tegucigalpa. (She says the only good thing about Hurricane Mitch is that it knocked the structure down, which she described as filthy and inhuman.) On one visit during the 1980s, she saw 40 kids living in conditions she called "fit only for animals," and without hesitation she told the prison authorities that she was going to take them in. Impulsively, she flagged down a passing bus and asked the driver to transport her and the kids, despite the fact that her homes were already bursting at the seams. When they arrived, Leggol said she got off the bus first and spoke to her staff. "Curse me later," she recalls telling them. "But for now, put on happy faces and make these children feel welcome."

The children got off the bus, and the worried staff did their best to be upbeat. Yet, Leggol said, the undertone of fear about how they were going to accommodate the new influx was palpable. Just as the bus pulled out, Leggol said, a large truck pulled into the compound. To everyone's astonishment, on board was an unexpected and unannounced gift from a local benefactor who happened to own a furniture store: 40 new beds, exactly the number they happened to need.

This reminds me of something Jim Erwin, a coworker with HelpingTulsa told me. Frequently a company would bring a large load of computers to be refurbished, and he knew that pretty soon after they arrived someone would come in needing a large number of computers. A need that could be filled based on the large delivery we had just received.
That remarkable coincidence seemed a sure sign of divine favor, but one doubting Thomas in the group nevertheless ventured: "Okay, they can sleep, but how are we going to feed them?" As if on cue, Leggol said, another unexpected truck arrived, this one groaning with donated surplus food from the United States Air Force: ham, sausages, eggs, and other staples of the American diet that seem luxuries to many poor Hondurans.
A similar incident, also from HelpingTulsa: We had a large number of our Children's Image and I called Tulsa Public Schools, to see which of the elementary schools was in a low income area, and we would offer them computers they could give to some of their better students so they could have a computer at home. One of the guidance councelors came to pick up the 10 machines for her school, and I told her be sure to get the Children's Image and not the Super Child image, because those were ones we gave to church schools. As soon as she got Hawthorne Elementary's computer to the school she called again and ask if she and her pastor could come and get some for their church. I told her yes, and they both came over. He said he had just been talking to someone the previous day saying they should figure out some way of helping educate the children in the church. I told him that is how God works. He has the answer ready for you almost before you realize the need.
"We ate for a month and a half from that truck," Leggol said. Given such experiences, it's not difficult to understand why Leggol is convinced that God wants her work to continue. It's also easier to understand her iron will.

PA upset over Merkel's pro-Israel stance

Jerusalem Post reported Palestinian Authority officials have accused German Chancellor Angela Merkel of "offending the Palestinians' feelings" during her visit earlier this week to Ramallah, where she met with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

Why those poor babies. See picture to the right.
The accusations, the first of their kind against a European leader, were made by top PA officials only hours after Merkel and her entourage left Ramallah on Monday. "She did everything to provoke the Palestinians during her visit," said one official.
Is it something she did, or just things she would not do?
"She showed no understanding for the plight of our people. On the other hand, she appeared to be very biased toward Israel."
Israel does not fire rockets unprovoked into neighboring countries. No Israeli has put on a bomb vest and blown himself up in order to kill Arabs.
The official claimed that while Merkel refused to meet with families of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel, she focused during her talks with Abbas on the need to release kidnapped IDF Cpl. Gilad Schalit, who has been held in the Gaza Strip since last June. In addition, he noted, Merkel met with the families of missing IDF soldiers during her visit to Jerusalem.
The missing IDF soldiers were kidnapped when they were in Israel, doing their jobs. The Palestinians held prisoners in Israel were caught killing or trying to kill people in Israel.
At the joint press conference with Abbas, Merkel refused to answer a question about the Palestinian prisoners in Israel, the official added. "She appeared to be obsessed with the case of Gilad Schalit," he said. "But she refused to even acknowledge the fact that we have more than 10,000 prisoners in Israel."
If you would stop sending people in to try to kill Jews, they would not take them prisoner.
Another PA official described Merkel's visit to Ramallah as "extremely negative and a total disappointment." He revealed that Abbas had originally requested that the meeting take place in Bethlehem, where Christians are celebrating Holy Week.
She probably heard how most of the Christians have been driven out of Bethlehem.
"We were hoping to show her the wall that Israel built around Bethlehem, but she refused to go there," he said. "President Abbas was hoping to draw parallels between Israel's wall and the Berlin Wall. He wanted to remind Merkel of the days when she lived in East Berlin."
Israel's wall was built to keep out Palestinians that want to kill Jews. The Russians built the Berlin Wall to keep East Germans from leaving East Germany and escaping to the west.
Merkel, according to the official, also turned down a request to meet with church leaders and representatives of Palestinian civil societies. "Almost all the European leaders meet with Christian leaders and representatives of civil societies," he pointed out. "But Merkel refused to do so.
Maybe she does not think Palestinians have a civil society.
She did not offer any explanation and that's why we are very disappointed with her and the German government. This behavior is completely unacceptable." The Palestinians are also angry with Merkel for visiting the Hebrew University, where she received an honorary doctorate on Sunday, while refusing to tour the Arab neighborhoods of Jerusalem.
Were the Arab neighborhoods offerring her an honorary doctorate?
PA officials were hoping to escort Merkel on a tour of the Arab neighborhoods to show her how Israel was "changing the Arab and Muslim character" of the city.
It is a Jewish City; the capital of the Jewish State.

Bomb Making Class in School

570 NEWS reported Six Afghan teenagers confessed to being part of a bombmaking cell after police raided a religious school in western Afghanistan and arrested 22 people, officials said Wednesday.

I get upset when schools here try to brainwash students to become Secular Humanists, rather than teaching them the 3 Rs (Reading, Riting, and Rithmatic), but at least they don't teach them how to make bombs. And I would be willing to be that no Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddist, or Taoist school teaches them bomb making either. Why Muslim Mdrassas? Haven't they been told that "Islam is a Peaceful Religion"? Do they think it is "pieceful", and is bomb making they way they want to make the pieces? They need to study more spelling.
The 22 were arrested early Tuesday morning at a madrassa, or religious school, in the village of Qala Qlay in western Farah province, said Anaar Khan, spokesman for the provincial police chief. Many of those arrested were teenagers, he said.

No more GWOT, House committee decrees

Military Times reported The House Armed Services Committee is banishing the global war on terror from the 2008 defense budget.

Actually I did not think it was in the Defense Budget. Since 9/11 I thought it was all handled by supplemental appropriations.
This is not because the war has been won, lost or even called off, but because the committee’s Democratic leadership doesn’t like the phrase.
In the Harry Potter books, he faces Lord Voldemort, but everyone else refers to him as "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named". This sounds like the same thing.
A memo for the committee staff, circulated March 27, says the 2008 bill and its accompanying explanatory report that will set defense policy should be specific about military operations and “avoid using colloquialisms.”
Or at least not colloquiaslisms that George Bush came up with.
The “global war on terror,” a phrase first used by President Bush shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the U.S., should not be used, according to the memo. Also banned is the phrase the “long war,” which military officials began using last year as a way of acknowledging that military operations against terrorist states and organizations would not be wrapped up in a few years.
Maybe they will call it the War That Must Not Be Fought.
Committee staff members are told in the memo to use specific references to specific operations instead of the Bush administration’s catch phrases. The memo, written by Staff Director Erin Conaton, provides examples of acceptable phrases, such as “the war in Iraq,” the “war in Afghanistan, “operations in the Horn of Africa” or “ongoing military operations throughout the world.”
How about the War Against Radical Islam?
“There was no political intent in doing this,” said a Democratic aide who asked not to be identified. “We were just trying to avoid catch phrases.”
That we did not invent.
Josh Holly, a spokesman for Rep. Duncan Hunter of California, the committee’s former chairman and now its senior Republican, said Republicans “were not consulted” about the change. Committee aides, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said dropping or reducing references to the global war on terror could have many purposes, including an effort to be more precise about military operations, but also has a political element involving a disagreement over whether the war in Iraq is part of the effort to combat terrorism or is actually a distraction from fighting terrorists.
Well we know Dems don't like the War in Iraq. Do they object to fighting terrorists as long as they are not in Iraq? Rather than confronting the Islamoterrists in Baghdad and Basrah would the Dems prefer fighting them in Boston, Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Bismarck, Boise, Buffalo, Broken Arrow, or Beaumont; rather than in Mosul would the Dems prefer fighting them in Mandeville, LA (where Greta now lives), Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Mobile, Memphis, Muskogee, or Mesquite; rather than in Karkuk and Karbala would the Dems prefer fighting them in Kansas City, Knoxville, Ketchum, or Kilgore; rather than in Tall Afar and Tikrit would the Dems prefer fighting them in Tulsa, Tallahassee, Tampa Bay, Terre Haute, Toledo, Topeka, Tucson, Tahlequah, Texas City, or Texarkana.
House Democratic leaders who have been pushing for an Iraq withdrawal timetable have talked about the need to get combat troops out of Iraq so they can be deployed against terrorists in other parts of the world, while Republicans have said that Iraq is part of the front line in the war on terror. Rep. Ike Skelton, D-Mo., the armed services committee chairman, has been among those who have complained that having the military tied up with Iraq operations has reduced its capacity to respond to more pressing problems, like tracking down al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.

“This is a philosophical and political question,” said a Republican aide. “Republicans generally believe that by fighting the war on terror in Iraq, we are preventing terrorists from spreading elsewhere and are keeping them engaged so they are not attacking us at home.”

Women's rights in Iran

Khaleej Times reported Four women’s rights activists were arrested on Monday for collecting signatures for a campaign demanding equal legal rights for women in Iran, an Iranian news agency reported. The ILNA news agency said the women were collecting names for a so-called ‘one million signature campaign’ demanding changes in what activists say are discriminatory laws against women in the Islamic Republic.

And they just discovered that fact????
‘Four women activists were arrested in Teheran’s Laleh Park this afternoon (Monday),’ ILNA reported. The report could not be independently confirmed. Iran denies discriminating against sexes and says its laws are based on Islamic sharia.
And Sharia law is definitely discriminatory against women since it is based on the Qur'an such as 2:282, 4:34, 4:15, 24:4, 24:6, 24:13, etc. etc. etc.

The problem with Islam

Tawfik Hamid wrote in OpinionJournal there is much that is clearly wrong with the Islamic world. Women are stoned to death and undergo clitorectomies. Gays hang from the gallows under the approving eyes of the proponents of Shariah, the legal code of Islam. Sunni and Shia massacre each other daily in Iraq. Palestinian mothers teach 3-year-old boys and girls the ideal of martyrdom.

Uncivilized seventh century values meets the 21st century.
One would expect the orthodox Islamic establishment to evade or dismiss these complaints, but less happily, the non-Muslim priests of enlightenment in the West have come, actively and passively, to the Islamists' defense.... Without confronting the ideological roots of radical Islam it will be impossible to combat it. While there are many ideological "rootlets" of Islamism, the main tap root has a name--Salafism, or Salafi Islam, a violent, ultra-conservative version of the religion.
And whabbi is the worst of the worst.
It is vital to grasp that traditional and even mainstream Islamic teaching accepts and promotes violence. Shariah, for example, allows apostates to be killed, permits beating women to discipline them, seeks to subjugate non-Muslims to Islam as dhimmis and justifies declaring war to do so. It exhorts good Muslims to exterminate the Jews before the "end of days." The near deafening silence of the Muslim majority against these barbaric practices is evidence enough that there is something fundamentally wrong.
They fear reprisals, and it is easier for them to keep their mouths shut.
... Yet it is ironic and discouraging that many non-Muslim, Western intellectuals--who unceasingly claim to support human rights--have become obstacles to reforming Islam. Political correctness among Westerners obstructs unambiguous criticism of Shariah's inhumanity. They find socioeconomic or political excuses for Islamist terrorism such as poverty, colonialism, discrimination or the existence of Israel. What incentive is there for Muslims to demand reform when Western "progressives" pave the way for Islamist barbarity?.... Progressives need to realize that radical Islam is based on an antiliberal system. They need to awaken to the inhumane policies and practices of Islamists around the world. They need to realize that Islamism spells the death of liberal values.
Why can't liberals see that. If, God forbid, the Islamists take over, conservative Christians will still be able to worship Christ, they will just have to pay a big tax. But some of the liberals major support basis will be in much greater trouble. Gays need not concern themselves with marriage. They need to fear being hanged or thrown from buildings. Abortion will not be needed, since unmarried women will be stoned or lashed to death for fornicating.
Merv blogged The piece also goes to the heart of the problem with the people that we are at war with. They are religious bigots. Because they are religious bigots they cannot be appeased or negotiated with. They must be destroyed before they destroy others. How many Democrats besides Joe Lieberman even comprehend this reality?

Synagogue possible target of hate crime

Chicago Tribune reported A synagogue on Chicago's North Side may have been the target of a hate crime after vandals spray-painted derogatory messages on the building early Saturday, police said.

May have been the target of a hate crime????? Just what does "Death to Israel" sound like to you.
Officers were called to the Ner Tamid Ezra-Habonin Congregation of North Town, at 2754 W. Rosemont Ave., on Saturday evening and found the front door spray-painted with offensive language, Officer John Mirabelli said.

Tackle extremists

Telegraph reported Muslim "opinion formers", including imams, are to be given lessons in civic leadership under a new plan to tackle Islamic extremism in Britain.

Are you stupid enough to think that the only reason they are uncivilized is that they have not been taught civic leadership? They have been taught that it is ok to kill anyone that is not a Muslim (and although it is not in the Qur'an, it is apparently ok to kill other Muslims if they are members of a different sects, or just tick you off.)
Ruth Kelly, the Communities and Local Government Secretary, will this week announce details of a £6 million "hearts and minds" drive to deal with growing radicalism among young British Muslims which can fuel terrorist plots.
And at the same time, they are dropping teaching about the Holocaust and the Crusades from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils
Also part of the plan are school-twinning projects, in which pupils from mainly Muslim schools will undertake joint projects, such as music and drama, with children from predominantly white establishments.
But I thought the Qur'an did not approve of music.
The schools could go on trips together, while groups of pupils could spend days in each other's classrooms.
Will the girls have to be accompanied by a male relative?

Congress will fund Iraq war if Bush uses veto, Obama says

USATODAY reported If President Bush vetoes an Iraq war spending bill as promised, Congress quickly will provide the money without the withdrawal timeline the White House objects to because no lawmaker "wants to play chicken with our troops," Sen. Barack Obama said Sunday.

I am not surprised. I just wonder how much pork they will insist on adding to the bill.
"My expectation is that we will continue to try to ratchet up the pressure on the president to change course," the Democratic presidential candidate said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I don't think that we will see a majority of the Senate vote to cut off funding at this stage."

Offending Muslims

Daily Mail reported Schools are dropping the Holocaust from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils, a Governmentbacked study has revealed.

Why would they be offended, they did not do it. It was the Germans under Hitler.
It found some teachers are reluctant to cover the atrocity for fear of upsetting students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial.
If they believe in the Tooth Fairy, do you not teach them about dental health?
There is also resistance to tackling the 11th century Crusades - where Christians fought Muslim armies for control of Jerusalem - because lessons often contradict what is taught in local mosques.
They need to learn the truth sometime.
The findings have prompted claims that some schools are using history 'as a vehicle for promoting political correctness'.
If they do not face up to their problems soon Londonistan and the rest of the EU will be under Sharia Law.

Enforce Sharia law within seven days or we will do it ourselves

Asia News reported a Pakistanian Imam said "if within a week Sharia law is not enforced throughout the country than true Muslims “will islamify society on their own”. Maulana Abdul Aziz, Imam of the Lal Masjid Mosque and director of Jamia Hafsa Madrassah has said. Speaking after Friday prayers to thousands of faithful, Aziz clarified: “If the government ignores our requests than we will have to enforce them ourselves”. The man then asked for the closure of “all brothels and gaming houses as soon as possible”, also adding in this case that “that aim may only be achieved thanks to the help of the Madrassah students”.

And they don't just want brothels closed. They are preparing a “list of impure places” to be forcibly shut down, and basically they want Sharia Law to superceed Pakistani Law. They want to turn modern Pakistan into something like Afganistan under the Taliban.
