Muslim-born woman seeks life as Hindu

San Jose Mercury News reported A Muslim-born woman who was forced to spend six months in an Islamic rehabilitation center because she wants to live as a Hindu said Friday after her release that she will never return to her original faith.

And yet the Quran says (Surah 2:256) “There is no compulsion in religion…”

Revathi Masoosai, 29, said officials at the center tried to make her pray as a Muslim, wear a head scarf and eat beef, a practice sacrilege to Hindus.

How would the Muslims have reacted if they had been required to eat pork.

"Because of their behavior, I loathe Islam even more now," she told reporters. "They say it's a school, but it's actually a prison."

Her case is one of a growing number of conflicts in Malaysia between religious freedom and state policies that favor Islam, the official faith of this southeast Asian nation. The battles have strained ethnic relations in the multicultural nation. Malaysia is considered one of the world's most relaxed Muslim countries, having enjoyed racial peace for nearly four decades. But it follows a dual justice system. Islamic, Shariah, courts administer the personal affairs of Muslims, while civil courts govern Hindus, Christians, Buddhists and other religious minorities.

And they don't let you say which faith you follow.

Under Islamic law, a person who is born Muslim cannot convert to another religion.... Revathi was born to Indian Muslim parents who gave her a Muslim name, Siti Fatimah. She was raised as a Hindu by her grandmother and changed her name in 2001, but her official papers still say she is Muslim. Revathi married Suresh Veerappan in 2004 according to Hindu rites and gave birth to a daughter in December 2005. But the marriage was not legally registered because under Malaysian law Suresh would have had to convert to Islam first.

So she was not a Muslim. Then why could she not leave Islam?

Islamic officials seized the couple's 18-month-old daughter from her Hindu father in March and handed the child to Revathi's Muslim mother.

Daily Intelligencer reported The soaring new New York Times tower — already known for its weird toilets (when flushed, they apparently sound like a kitten being strangled), its weirder elevators (no buttons, and no indication of what floor they're on), a leak problem (editor Bill Keller's office got soggy in a recent rainstorm), and a mouse problem (reported by Gawker) — still has a few more surprises between the floorboards: maggots.

Insanity from the UK

This Is Aberdeen reported Communities Secretary Hazel Blears said the incidents this week should not prompt revenge attacks on Britain's Muslim community.

I agree, but they should certainly be scrutinized.

"These terrorists don't care who their victims are. They can come from any background, any race, any faith," she said.

Including Church of England????

She said Muslim leaders had told her they wanted to stand up against terrorism.

Tell them to go ahead.

Don't "play" with Islamic law

Iran Focus reported Activists should not try to change Islamic laws relating to women's rights, Iran's supreme leader said on Wednesday, two days after one campaigner was reportedly sentenced to 34 months in jail and ten lashes.

That is one way to deal with lobbyist. I wonder if we could do it Washington.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, also lambasted the West for using women as a tool to advertise products, make money and to satisfy "disorderly and unlawful sexual needs," state television said.

45 Muslim doctors planned US terror raids

Telegraph reported A group of 45 Muslim doctors threatened to use car bombs and rocket grenades in terrorist attacks in the United States during discussions on an extremist internet chat site. Police found details of the discussions on a site run by one of a three-strong "cyber-terrorist" gang.

That's what Britain gets for being so desperate for doctors that they don't properly vet those they let in.

They were discovered at the home of Younis Tsouli, 23, Woolwich Crown Court in south-east London heard. One message read: "We are 45 doctors and we are determined to undertake jihad and take the battle inside America.

We need to look at the H1B Visas we have issued.

TheHill reported Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) would not be allowed to spend more than a few million dollars in crucial Republican primary states if he accepted public funding to supplement his disappointing fund raising.

Not as limiting as only having $2 Million in the bank.

McCain campaign officials said this week that they are considering accepting public funds for the primary campaign. McCain has raised $24 million for his presidential bid and has only $2 million in the bank.

Libby clemency

CNN reported Former President Bill Clinton blasted his successor’s decision to spare ex-White House aide Lewis “Scooter” Libby from prison, telling Iowa radio listeners that Libby’s case differed from his own administration’s pardon controversy.

True. Clintons were to get money for his libray, or support for his wife's candidacy. Bush's was because he thought the jail term was not deserved.

Resign or face impeachment

TheHill reported Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) told Vice President Dick Cheney to “resign or face impeachment” Thursday night as three more House Democrats lent their support to a plan to impeach the vice president.

Go ahead. The Reppublicans screwed up by impeaching Clinton when they knew no Democrats would vote to convict. Go ahead and make the same mistake.

“The vice president holds himself above the law, and it is time for the Congress to enforce the law,” McDermott said in a floor speech. “For the good of the nation, the vice president could leave office immediately.” McDermott was one of three House Democrats to come out in favor of impeachment Thursday, along with Reps. Iran fuel rations spark violence

BBC NEWS reported At least 12 petrol stations have been torched in the Iranian capital, Tehran, after the government announced fuel rationing for private vehicles.

That makes a lot of sense. Not!!! You don't like fuel rationing, so burn down a gasoline station.

Windows were smashed and stones thrown at the stations, and there was traffic chaos as motorists queued to buy fuel.

Did anyone say that fuel rationing is unIslamic?

Iranians were given only two hours' notice of the move that limits private drivers to 100 litres of fuel a month. Despite its huge energy reserves, Iran lacks refining capacity and it imports about 40% of its petrol.

Maybe they need nuclear powered cars.

The country has a large budget deficit largely caused by fuel subsidies and the inflation rate is estimated at 20-30%.

Unrest is good. It will prompt even harsher actions by the government, which will foster even more unrest. Maybe they will topple to government from within.

The BBC's Tehran correspondent, Frances Harrison, says Iran is trying to rein in fuel consumption over fears of possible UN sanctions over its nuclear programme. Iran fears the West could impose sanctions on its petrol imports and cripple its economy.

Gore blames scientists for climate crisis

Independent reported In an extraordinary outburst aimed at America's failure to tackle global warming, Al Gore says that if scientific agreement on the climate crisis had been reached sooner it would have been easier to "galvanise the public and persuade Congress to act".

As if there were really scientific agreement on it now. In reality the press has just agreed to says that the scientists that cater to GW are the only real scientists, and to hide the opinions of those that disagree with them.

The failed presidential candidate claims that the stronger scientific consensus he knew was about to emerge meant "we in the US were about to shift into high gear in addressing the climate crisis". Mr Gore argues that if he had made it to the White House, he would have been able to use the office as a "bully pulpit" to achieve change.

So it's the scientists fault you lost? Could it be bad publicity on that internet you invented?

"The nature and severity of the climate crisis had seemed painfully obvious to me for quite a long time," claims Mr Gore, writing in a new foreword to a revised edition of his book, Earth in the Balance, being published this week.

Then why when you were VP did Clinton not submit Kyoto to the senate for approval? Did it have anything to do with the 95 to 0 vote they made which said they would reject the treaty?

In a swipe at the scientific community, he says: "I wish that we could have had in the 1990s the deafening scientific consensus that has emerged in more recent years."

Unfortunately we listened to both side back then.

Mr Gore accuses his nemesis, President George Bush, of having taken "virtually no steps to address the problem. Worse, he and Vice President Cheney have led the nation in precisely the wrong direction."

Bush's ranch is more enviromentally proper than your huge new house.

He goes on to detail how the Bush administration reversed a pledge to regulate carbon dioxide as a pollutant, pulled out of negotiations on the Kyoto treaty and replaced key scientific advisers with ones suggested by oil giant ExxonMobil.

The treaty was already finished, and Clinton signed it. He just could not get the Senate to approve it. All Bush did is reverse Clinton's signing something that would never be approved.

The point of no return will be reached within 10 years, the former vice president says, and we cannot wait any longer to solve the crisis. He blames a focus on instant gratification for the "exclusion of long-term consequences in our decisions and policies" and writes about his "mission of solving the climate crisis". His Oscar-winning documentary on climate change, An Inconvenient Truth, became the surprise box-office hit of 2006.

Mr Gore claims that concerns over the environment formed his "principal agenda for eight years in the White House". But he is light on details of what he did while in office, beyond a brief mention of his work with the Kyoto treaty (which was never ratified by Congress).

He claims a lot, but is always light on the details, because they show that he is lying.

During his tenure as vice president, America's carbon dioxide emissions shot up far faster than at any time in modern history - by 15 per cent, compared to just 1.65 per cent during President Bush's first term.

It's a good thing we got him out of office.

The army commander said to her: "The gift was accepted, and the bride has been brought to the groom." She praised Allah for accepting her sacrifice – her only son, who was about to be married. She believed that his wedding was his martyrdom for the sake of Allah....

So the stupid mother no longer has a son, or her 10,000 dinars, and her son is looking around hell trying to find his 72 virgins.

Yunis Al-Astal: When Jihad becomes an individual duty, the husband's permission or consent is not required, because jihad becomes like prayer.

Just like a woman does not have to ask for permission to pray, to fast during the Ramadhan, or to give charity, she does not need to ask for permission when Jihad becomes an individual duty.

She may have to ask permission to leave the house, if she is planning on coming back, but if she is going to kill herself trying to kill others, that is ok.

In my opinion, in places invaded by the enemy, Jihad becomes an individual duty. With regard to your question about the veil, especially when it comes to martyrdom-seekers who had to go into the Zionist cities deep in Palestine – Jihad is a duty, and so is wearing a veil, but the duty of Jihad is ten times great than the duty to wear a veil.

So they can blow themselves up without wearing a veil. Is it ok if they get stinking drunk first, so they have the courage to push the button?

Militants Said to Flee Before U.S. Offensive

NYT reported The operational commander of troops battling to drive fighters with Al Qaeda from Baquba said Friday that 80 percent of the top Qaeda leaders in the city fled before the American-led offensive began earlier this week. He compared their flight with the escape of Qaeda leaders from Falluja ahead of an American offensive that recaptured that city in 2004. In an otherwise upbeat assessment, Lt. Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, the second-ranking American commander in Iraq, told reporters that leaders of Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia had been alerted to the Baquba offensive by widespread public discussion of the American plan to clear the city before the attack began. He portrayed the Qaeda leaders’ escape as cowardice, saying that “when the fight comes, they leave,” abandoning “midlevel” Qaeda leaders and fighters to face the might of American troops — just, he said, as they did in Falluja.

They should really hype the cowardice of the leaders, then announce we don't even need to go in in-force, and without announcing what we are doing position the forcews where we can quickly surroung the area and close it off, and when the leaders sneak back in, then proceed as originally planned.

Muslim peer compares Rushdie to 9/ll bombers

Telegraph A Muslim peer compared Salman Rushdie to the September 11 hijackers today as the row over the author's knighthood escalated. At Regents Park Mosque in London, protestors held up placards saying "May God curse the Queen" and one speaker told followers Tony Blair should be sent back from the Middle East "in a bag". And in Iran, a senior cleric told worshippers at Friday prayers that the fatwa against Mr Rushdie was still valid.

Never cancel death fatwas until they are carried out.

Interviewed in Le Figaro newspaper in France, the Labour peer Lord Ahmed of Rotherham added fuel to the row when he hit out at Mr Rushdie. "This honour is given in recognition of services rendered to Great Britain," he said. "Salman Rushdie lives in New York. He is controversial man who has insulted Muslim people, Christians and the British.

Anythingg seems to insult Muslims. They must be very unsure of their faith. A lot of people attempt to demean Christians with much worse things, but we know that our God is above it all, and so is His Son. Abd I don't see how he insulted the British.

He does not deserve the honour. "Two weeks ago Tony Blair spoke about constructing bridges with Muslims. What hypocrisy. "What would one say if the Saudi or Afghan governments honoured the martyrs of the September 11 attacks on the United States?"

About the same thing we said when people danced in the street cheering after 9/11. But we did not kill anyone over the dancing.

Voucher Students Show Few Gains in First Year

WaPo reported Students in the D.C. school voucher program, the first federal initiative to spend taxpayer dollars on private school tuition, generally performed no better on reading and math tests after one year in the program than their peers in public schools, the U.S. Education Department said yesterday.

They said it indicated a significant positive impact on parental perceptions of school satisfaction and safety. Students who were offered a scholarship were also more likely to attend a school with a music program and a computer lab than students not offered a scholarship.. They said The report findings are consistent with other studies conducted on school choice programs across the nation, which typically find more than one year is needed to raise student achievement..

The department's report, which researchers said is an early snapshot, found only a few exceptions to the conclusion that the program has not yet had a significant impact on achievement:

Maybe it takes a little while to undo all of the bad training they got in public school and teach them the basics.

Students who moved from higher-performing public schools to private schools and those who scored well on tests before entering the program performed better in math than their peers who stayed in public school.

That is not what the headline says.

Stem-cell research bill

Cleveland.com reported President Bush vetoed a bill that would have made it possible to expand federally funded embryonic stem-cell research.

There is nothing preventing embryonic stem cell research; this bill would have just spent federal money on it, which pro-life people object to since their tax dollars would be spent destroying potential human life. And federal money can currently be spent on many other types of stem-cell research, the forms that have already produced cures (unlike embryonic stem-cells)

The veto was a knock to the Democratic-led Congress. Democrats, who had made the stem cell legislation a top priority when they took control of the House and Senate in January, were quick to denounce the president's decision. As if the Dems are not doing exactly the same thing.

Bush authorized research on some embryonic stem-cell lines, that akready existed, reversing a complete ban under Clinton.

Barack Obama, another Democratic presidential hopeful, said Bush was "deferring the hopes of millions of Americans who do not have the time to keep waiting for the cure that may save or extend lives."

They should be urgin research into things that have shown they can create cures, rather than something that just "might" do it, but which equally might cause major cancer.

Democrats said they would hold votes to try to override the veto - or at least give the issue more air time.

Rather than trying to work on compromises on other things that could produce results, they will just waste time on something they know will not work, but which will get them on TV bashing the Republicans.

Sir Osama bin Laden?

IOL reported A hard-line Pakistani parliamentarian and head of a religious political party on Wednesday demanded a "sir" title for Osama bin Laden, the leader of the al-Qaeda terrorist network, in retaliation for Britain knighting author Salman Rushdie.

Can I hold the sword as it taps him on the shoulder? I might slip just a bit, and strike him on the neck.

"Muslims should confer the 'sir' title and all other awards on bin Laden and Mullah Omar in reply to Britain's shameful decision to knight Rushdie," Sami ul Haq, leader of the pro-Taliban Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, said in a statement, referring also to the leader of the Taliban.

Hamas butchery

Haaretz reported Fatan al-Hinawi, 9, was hospitalized in the children's ward of Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv after being wounded in Gaza. A bullet punctured her side, hit her spine, bowels, a kidney and came out the other side, hitting her arm.

Those brave Hamas members were willing to shoot an unarmed 9 year old Muslim girl. Can you tell me where in the Koran that is justified?

Al-Hinawi is one of five Palestinians, three of them children, who were caught in Hamas-Fatah cross fire and taken to Ichilov.

Ichilov General Hospital is in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Some are in serious condition.... "I wanted to shoot myself for voting Hamas," another patient said. He came with his brother, who had been shot in the head while evacuating wounded people in his taxi. "We really believed Hamas would change things," he said.

They did. Just not for the good.

"Hamas has money and weapons for the next 20 years. All the youngsters want to join it, it offers good wages, not what we get from the Palestinian Authority," he said.

You might find it is better than to go into business for yourself rather than expect money from either terrorist organizatioin.

How? Are you saying you wanted them to reoccupy Gaza? How else were they to stop the Hamas attacks?

Later yesterday, Zecharia Alrai, 39, an officer in Fatah's elite Force 17 commando unit, arrived. He had been abducted by four Hamas gunmen a week ago. They loaded him into a jeep and drove him to an isolated spot, where they shot three bullets into his leg and dumped him.

A nice way to treat a fellow Muslim.

"That's not Islam. That's evil and hypocrisy. How ironic that Israel is rescuing us from our Muslim 'brothers,'" he said.

Jay blogged How ironic is it that Israel is saving Muslims from Muslims, while Egypt and Jordan remain silent? How ironic that the main target of Palestinian terror is the one doing the most to help? Where are the British doctors who were so quick to condemn their Israeli counterparts? As usual, it won’t be long before the condemnations start coming. As usual, you know who will be blamed. It won’t be Hamas.
