Veil

Middle East Times reported Italy's interior ministry has published a "values charter" for religious minorities that promotes integration while shunning polygamy and the wearing of face-concealing veils.

Congratulations. I hope many Muslim groups sign on. Have any agreed yet?
The charter, presented late Monday by Interior Minister Giuliano Amato, enshrines "the right to religious freedom and equality between man and woman," according to the ministry's Web site. The charter advocates the "monogamous family and wants to prevent women from experiencing humiliation and polygamy," said Carlo Cardia, the head of the committee that drafted the accord, according to the ANSA news agency. The seven-page document refers to European values and those of the Italian constitution, and condemns terrorism, anti-Semitism, and xenophobia.

Regarding the veil, it says that while "no restrictions on clothing exist in Italy ... [veils that] cover the face are not acceptable because they prevent the recognition of the person and are an obstacle for establishing relationships with others." Amato said the document would serve as a guide for relations between the ministry and Italy's various religious communities, and should help "consolidate Italian Islam." The non-binding charter "cannot be imposed on anyone," Amato said, adding that it was just the start of a process. More than a million Muslims make up the second-largest religious community in Italy, after Roman Catholicism. The largest Muslim organization, UCOII, was critical of the charter even though it took part in its drafting.

"The veil has never been humiliating to women," said UCOII president Mohamed Nour Dachan
A man, who does not have to wear one.
, adding that he felt the charter should mention "the positive role of Islam in the history of Europe."

Furor over author Ayaan Hirsi Ali's visit stirs debate on religious freedom

Tribune Review reported Say what you want about your religion. Go ahead, say anything that comes into your mind -- even if you don't agree with your minister, your priest, your rabbi. Even if you think you're right and they've got it all wrong, as long as you're not making a direct threat to someone, you can disagree or turn your back and walk away to another faith or to no faith at all. Here, in America, it's OK.

Or at least it is supposed to be OK.
In a land of more than 3,000 diverse religions, your right to religious liberty is a guaranteed protection under the First Amendment. "The key in the U.S. from the beginning has been to make sure all religious groups not only understand freedoms, but connect them to their own commitment," said Charles C. Haynes, senior scholar and director of educational programs at the First Amendment Center in Arlington, Va., and Nashville.

A community debate over religious freedom surfaced in Western Pennsylvania last week when Dutch feminist author Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali refugee who has lived under the threat of death for denouncing her Muslim upbringing, made an appearance at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Islamic leaders tried to block the lecture, which was sponsored through an endowment from the Frank J. and Sylvia T. Pasquerilla Lecture Series. They argued that Hirsi Ali's attacks against the Muslim faith in her book, "Infidel," and movie, "Submission," are "poisonous and unjustified" and create dissension in their community.
The solution to speech you don't like is more speech.
Although university officials listened to Islamic leaders' concerns, the lecture planned last year took place Tuesday evening under tight security, with no incidents.
Good for them.
Imam Fouad ElBayly, president of the Johnstown Islamic Center, was among those who objected to Hirsi Ali's appearance.

"She has been identified as one who has defamed the faith. If you come into the faith, you must abide by the laws, and when you decide to defame it deliberately, the sentence is death," said ElBayly, who came to the U.S. from Egypt in 1976.
Are you threatening her with death?
Hirsi Ali, an atheist, has been critical of many Muslim beliefs, particularly on subjects of sexual morality, the treatment of women and female genital mutilation. In her essay "The Caged Virgin," she also wrote of punishment, noting that "a Muslim's relationship with God is one of fear."
You should try my God, who "so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
"Our God demands total submission. He rewards you if you follow His rules meticulously. He punishes you cruelly if you break His rules, both on earth, with illness and natural disasters, and in the hereafter, with hellfire," she wrote. In some Muslim countries, such as Iran, apostasy -- abandoning one's religious belief -- and blasphemy are considered punishable by death under sharia, a system of laws and customs that treats both public and private life as governable by God's law.

Sharia is based largely on an interpretation of the Quran, the sayings of the Prophet Mohammed, a consensus of Islamic scholars and reasoning, according to the New York-based Council on Foreign Relations. In some countries, sharia has been associated with stoning to death those who are accused of adultery, flogging for drinking wine and amputation of a hand for theft.
Islam, the Religion of Peace. NOT!!!!!!
One of the most noted cases of apostasy in recent years involved author Salman Rushdie, whose novel "The Satanic Verses" offered an unflattering portrayal of the Muslim Prophet Mohammed. The book prompted Iran's Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini to issue a fatwa -- a religious decree -- in 1989 calling for Rushdie's assassination.

Although ElBayly believes a death sentence is warranted for Hirsi Ali, he stressed that America is not the jurisdiction where such a crime should be punished. Instead, Hirsi Ali should be judged in a Muslim country after being given a trial, he added.
But she is in the US, where she moved after being threatened in Europe. Why should she want to go to a Muslim Country, where she would be certain to be convicted. That would be an indication she was mentally unstable, in which case even Muslim law forbids harming her.
"If it is found that a person is mentally unstable, or a child or disabled, there should be no punishment," he said. "It's a very merciful religion if you try to understand it."
Let us contrast her chances in the US or a Muslim Country. Hummmm. What do you think?
Zahida Chaudhary, a member of the education council and education secretary at the Muslim Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh in Monroeville, insisted that Islam is a peaceful religion. "The Prophet Mohammed was a peacemaker and a role model for humanity," she said. "My understanding is that he was a peaceful person who believed that religion was a choice. He tried to teach people and bring them into it, not punish them."
Actually he said(Bukhari 9.84.57)
Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him
Haynes, who has studied and written extensively about religious liberty and has worked with many Muslim groups, said he was "stunned" by ElBayly's comments.

"There are more radical, extreme views of Islam in European counties than in the U.S.
That is true, and there are even more radical extreme views in Saudia Arabia. But does that mean Muslims should have to move there?
It's rare to hear it and even more rare to learn that American Muslims believe it," he said.

While Hirsi Ali is viewed as an infidel among the Islamic community, those who speak out against other religions usually are met with discussion, prayer and counseling. In extreme cases, critics might be shown the door.

"One is free to choose whatever religion and body of truths one wants to believe," said the Rev. Ronald Lengwin, spokesman for the Roman Catholic Diocese. "The church fosters freedom of religion. That's a decision everyone has to make on their own."

Centuries ago, Lengwin said, the church imposed harsh punishment -- including execution -- upon people viewed as heretics. He cited as an example the Roman Inquisition trial of 15th century Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei, who was tried by the church, threatened with torture and sentenced to prison for his teachings on the motions of the earth.

With the evolution of the church, things have changed.
Evolution does bring change.
For example, Lengwin said, the church has faced criticism from many of its own priests who have disagreed with various beliefs and practices. When that happens, there is discussion and clarification of beliefs, he said. It doesn't always work.
But you are not killed if it doesn't.
"We've had people walk away and start churches of their own or join Lutheran or Presbyterian or other churches," he said. "The role of the church is to teach the truth as effectively as you can. There's no jail if you don't agree with us."

The Rev. Douglas Holben, executive presbyter for the Redstone Presbytery, which covers Westmoreland, Fayette, Somerset and Cambria counties, said the Presbyterian Church "as a community of faith would try to find a common ground" when confronted with differing opinions. "We seek to find things to unite us," Holben said. If faced with criticism, it's best to "find ways in which they find the church to be faithful to the Lord," he said.

Holben said the church has formed a Theological Task Force on Peace, Unity and Purity that includes people from different backgrounds and perspectives. Discussions among the group were productive, he said, adding that the members did not condemn or judge each other for their differences.

"They were able to say that even though we don't agree with your opinion, we can agree upon a common faith," he said.

Rabbi Sara Perman, leader of the Congregation Emanu-El Israel in Greensburg, explained that before the French Revolution emancipated Jews in Europe, those who spoke out against Judaism faced "cherem" or excommunication. Cherem resulted in both a spiritual and economic "death" because people who were excommunicated were unable to make a living in their community.

"Now, the reality is that if you are unsatisfied and speak out against Judaism, there isn't much we can do about it in this country," Perman said. "Within the general Jewish community, there isn't much you can do except not give them a forum or ignore them."

Haynes said the key to America's success in religious diversity is for people of all religions to understand that you "can't just tolerate" the fact that Muslims or Catholics or Protestants or Mormons or Jews have a right to be here. He said this country is a "level playing field" where everyone is free to practice their religion, but not to carry out extreme ideas that violate basic principles. "I don't think there's anyplace on the planet with more religious diversity," Haynes said. "This is a big challenge in 21st century America to make sure we can live with the deepest differences, and religious differences are the most difficult to navigate."
Only if one side is prepared tp kill and not even discuss differences.

Prisoners convert to Islam in escape plot

NZ Herald reported One of Australia's most dangerous criminals paid fellow inmates to convert to Islam as a prelude to planning an audacious escape from the country's toughest jail, it was alleged yesterday.

I can imagine them wanting to get out of prison, but does the "expression from the frying pan into the fire" come to mind?
Convicted murderer Bassam Hamzy arranged for cash payments to be secretly made to prisoners prepared to worship Allah and help him plot an escape from the Super Max section of Goulburn jail in New South Wales. In what prison authorities described as a "pay to pray" conspiracy, 12 of the 37 inmates at the Super Max facility became Muslim fundamentalists or converts. They all shaved their heads, grew long beards and prayed in their cells up to five times a day. Some are of Muslim background but others are white Australians or Aborigines.

A small but growing number of Aborigines are turning to Islam, in part as a source of spiritual pride but also as a rejection of the drug and alcohol abuse which has wreaked havoc among indigenous people.
They should be proud of their accomplishments, but they might want to embrace Jesus. He will love them, and if they lose their way and reject Christianity He will not have them killed.

Un Islamic Democracy

Yahoo News reported Maulana Abdul Aziz, the chief cleric of the controversial Lal Masjid, has reportedly said that Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's regime was "un-Islamic", and that it was obligatory for every Muslim to wage jihad against it for rule of law and speedy dispensation of justice.

In a Democratic country you presuade more than half of the people they would rather let you make the rules.
... The cleric also criticised democracy, saying it was a flawed system. "Democracy is nothing, but counting of heads.
But at least they remain connected to their necks. And i agree with Sir Winston Churchill "It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried."
It cannot differentiate between good and bad people, as in this system the vote of a devout Muslim equals the vote of a frail Muslim," he said.
But at least it does not let a small number of "devout Muslims" decide who is a devout Muslim, who is a frail Muslim, and who is an infidel.
On the recent spate in suicide attacks in Pakistan, he said: "Suicide attacks in Pakistan are un-Islamic, but if the government took action against Jamia Hafsa, we would allow our followers to launch suicide attacks against it to save the honour of our female students."
You are the sort of people that will kill a woman to protect her honor; maybe you would allow her to blow up herself for the same reason. You do not understand honor.

Desecrating the Koran

Union Tribune reported An Egyptian living in Saudi Arabia has been sentenced to death for desecrating the Koran and renouncing Islam, Saudi newspapers and a rights activist said on Wednesday. Okaz and al-Hayat newspapers said worshippers at a mosque in the desert town of Arar in north Saudi Arabia lodged a complaint with police saying the man, a pharmacist, had left copies of the Muslim holy book in the mosque washrooms.

Maybe he just forgot it.
They said a court found the man guilty on Tuesday of no longer being a Muslim because of his acts and 'violating the boundaries set by God'. They said the man, whom they identified only as an Arab national, pleaded guilty.
Did he know what he was pleading guilty to, or did they just say did you leave your Koran in the washroom?
Saudi Arabia executes murderers, rapists and drug traffickers to death by public beheading, according to an austere version of Sunni Islam. Anyone found guilty of apostasy can also face death.

Ali al-Ahmed, a prominent Saudi rights activist who has followed the case, said the verdict raised questions about Saudi Arabia's justice system, which rights groups have criticised over a lack of legal representation and codified laws. 'The man is Muslim and an Egyptian. I believe he was set up by extremists zealots,' said Ahmed, a critic of the Saudi government who is based at the Gulf Institute in Washington.
Zelots in Saudia Arabia or zealots in Egypt?
Saudi Arabia often responds to rights groups saying Islamic law specifies clear rights and obligations for Muslims and non-Muslim residents, who must abide by its laws and customs. Four Sri Lankans were publicly beheaded then displayed on wooden crosses in February for armed robbery after what U.S.-based Human Rights Watch called a sham trial.

Hamas: Truce with Israel at end

Yahoo! News Hamas militants fired a barrage of rockets and mortar shells toward Israel on its independence day Tuesday, and said they considered it the end of a five-month truce with Israel. Palestinian Prime Minister

Israel said they had not done anything during the five month truce to show they were serious about a truce. Rocket attacks, suicde bombers still tried to get in, and Hamas still refused to recognize any agreements Isreal had made with the Palestinians.
Ismail Haniyeh, whose Hamas-led government negotiated the cease-fire with its militant wing,
Oh the truce was between part of Hamas and another part.
blamed Israel: "We made great efforts at keeping the truce and there was a positive Palestinian position, but unfortunately this position was met by expanding the aggression and escalating it against the Palestinian people," he said. "It's not a Palestinian problem, it is an Israeli problem."
At least they hope pther countries are stupid enough tblieve that.
Nine Palestinians were killed in fighting with Israel over the weekend, most of them militants, but also two civilians. The barrage, which came on Israel's 59th independence day, did not cause any damage or injury, but it marked the first time Hamas acknowledged firing shells toward Israel since agreeing to a cease-fire along the Gaza-Israel border in November.
They were launching their own fireworks to honor Israel independence.
Hamas is tightly organized, and Israel says attacks from Gaza have the tacit approval from the militant group's political leaders. Israel Radio, citing military officials, said the rocket attack appeared to be an unsuccessful attempt to create a diversion in order to capture an Israeli soldier posted at the Gaza border. In June, Hamas-allied militants had tunneled from Gaza into Israel and seized an Israeli soldier, Cpl. Gilad Shalit, who is still being held.
They cant get Israel to swap 1000 murders for one soldier so the want another one.
In Israel, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his defense minister discussed a possible response. More security consultations were planned for Wednesday, government officials said..... In a growing problem for Gaza, Palestinian smugglers and clansmen settle differences with guns, and bands of self-styled vigilantes have killed suspected pimps, prostitutes, drug dealers, owners of music shops, internet cafes, pool halls — activities which could divert people from worship — and women suspected of sexual misconduct.
Islam is a Reilgion of Peace. NOT!!!!!
Bystanders are often wounded or killed.

Iran Exonerates Six Who Killed in Islam’s Name

NYT reported The Iranian Supreme Court has overturned the murder convictions of six members of a prestigious state militia who killed five people they considered “morally corrupt.”

On first blush you might say that Muslims have a lot of freedom. They can kill anyone they want, and get off by saying they considered him "morally corrupt", but then consider that everyone else would be free to kill them, and claim they were "morally corrupt."

People don't stop killers. People with guns do

In an editorial in NY Daily News Constitutional law professor Glenn Reynolds wrote On Monday, as the news of the Virginia Tech shootings was unfolding, I went into my advanced constitutional law seminar to find one of my students upset. My student, Tara Wyllie, has a permit to carry a gun in Tennessee, but she isn't allowed to have a weapon on campus. That left her feeling unsafe. "Why couldn't we meet off campus today?" she asked. Virginia Tech graduate student Bradford Wiles also has a permit to carry a gun, in Virginia. But on the day of the shootings, he would have been unarmed for the same reason: Like the University of Tennessee, where I teach, Virginia Tech bans guns on campus.

In The Roanoke Times last year - after another campus incident, when a dangerous escaped inmate was roaming the campus - Wiles wrote that, when his class was evacuated, "Of all of the emotions and thoughts that were running through my head that morning, the most overwhelming one was of helplessness. That feeling of helplessness has been difficult to reconcile because I knew I would have been safer with a proper means to defend myself." Wiles reported that when he told a professor how he felt, the professor responded that she would have felt safer if he had had a gun, too. What's more, she would have been safer. That's how I feel about my student (one of a few I know who have gun carry permits), as well. She's a responsible adult; I trust her not to use her gun improperly, and if something bad happened, I'd want her to be armed because I trust her to respond appropriately, making the rest of us safer.

Virginia Tech doesn't have that kind of trust in its students (or its faculty, for that matter). Neither does the University of Tennessee. Both think that by making their campuses "gun-free," they'll make people safer, when in fact they're only disarming the people who follow rules, law-abiding people who are no danger at all. This merely ensures that the murderers have a free hand. If there were more responsible, armed people on campuses, mass murder would be harder.

In fact, some mass shootings have been stopped by armed citizens. Though press accounts downplayed it, the 2002 shooting at Appalachian Law School was stopped when a student retrieved a gun from his car and confronted the shooter. Likewise, Pearl, Miss., school shooter Luke Woodham was stopped when the school's vice principal took a .45 from his truck and ran to the scene. In February's Utah mall shooting, it was an off-duty police officer who happened to be on the scene and carrying a gun. Police can't be everywhere, and as incidents from Columbine to Virginia Tech demonstrate, by the time they show up at a mass shooting, it's usually too late. On the other hand, one group of people is, by definition, always on the scene: the victims. Only if they're armed, they may wind up not being victims at all.

Glenn has a very good point, but I bet that the radical left will attempt to use this as another excuse to disarm all of us, and leave us even more vulnerable to crazy guys like Cho. But it is not "Politically Correct" to point that out. Political correctness is running amoke. As James Toranto said in Best of the Web Today The Asian American Journalists Association, an association of journalists, has issued the following statement in response to the Virginia Tech massacre
As coverage of the Virginia Tech shooting continues to unfold, AAJA urges all media to avoid using racial identifiers unless there is a compelling or germane reason. There is no evidence at this early point that the race or ethnicity of the suspected gunman has anything to do with the incident, and to include such mention serves only to unfairly portray an entire people.
Reuters is listening, and they said
English Major Blamed for Virginia Tech Shooting.
. As James wrote, Where's the English Major Journalists Association when you need it?

Many MSM sites are calling this "the worst mass murder in U.S. history", but as Ragnar Danneskjold said Truth is, the Virginia Tech shooting rampage, while tragic, was not "the worst mass murder in U.S. history." It wasn't the "second worst mass murder in U.S. history," or even the third, or the fourth.

The 9/11 attacks (2,998 deaths), the Oklahoma City bombing (168 deaths), the HappyLand arson (87 deaths) and the Bath, Michigan bombing (45 deaths) all claimed more victims than the Virginia Tech shootings (32 deaths).

But, as Vinnie noted yesterday, those events don't fit neatly into the anti-gun political agenda, so they need to go down the memory hole, thereby leaving the Virginia Tech shootings as "the worst mass murder in U.S. history," with Charles Whitman's shooting rampage taking a close second.

I am very familiar with Charles Whitman's shooting rampage from the UT Austin Tower. Just east of the tower was the UT Computer Center, and I was working in that building as a computer operator when Charles Whitman was shooting people above me. We did not know about it at the time, and I am not sure why. Perhaps if someone had started outside they would have been told. But in the computer room itself, where I worked, the word was not spread until it was all over.

Polygamous husbands can claim cash for their harems

This is London reports Polygamous husbands settling in Britain with multiple wives can claim extra benefits for their "harems" even though bigamy is a crime in the UK, it has emerged.
If it is a crime in the UK put them in prison, or deport them.
Opposition MPs are demanding an urgent change in the law, claiming that the Government is recognising and rewarding a custom which has no legal status and which is "alien" to this country's cultural traditions. Officials said yesterday a review was now under way into whether the state should continue to pay out income support, jobseeker's allowance and housing and council tax benefits to 'extra' spouses.
at socialism gets you.
See whIslamic law allows a man to take up to four wives, providing he can provide for them fairly and equally.
But he is not providing for them at all. He is putting them on the dole.
But British law only ever recognises one spouse, while bigamy is punishable by up to seven years in jail.
Tell them they have two weeks to leave or you are going to put them in jail.
However, if a husband and his wives arrive and settle in Britain having wed in a country where polygamy is legal, then the UK benefits system recognises his extra wives as dependents and pays them accordingly.
Stupid policy
.... Tory MP for Monmouth David Davies condemned the arrangements as "appalling", and called for an immediate halt to the payments. He said: "People who come to this country must be prepared to abide by our laws and rules. Polygamy is completely alien to our cultural and legal tradition, and it's disgraceful that our benefits system is recognising and rewarding it. "Why are some people in Government falling over themselves to undermine every tradition that has made this country what it is?"
because they are liberal socialists.
.... A DWP official insisted the rules did not "reward" polygamy, as second wives receive less in benefits than single women. A single person can claim just under £60 per week in jobseeker's allowance, while couples receive up to £92.80, but each 'additional spouse' in a polygamous marriage receives an extra £33.65.
It is still rewarding them, just not as much. Paying them £0 would be not rewarding them.

3 killed in attack on Christian publishing house in Turkey

International Herald Tribune reported Assailants killed three people Wednesday at a publishing house that distributed Bibles, in the latest attack apparently targeting Turkey's tiny Christian minority.
Is Islam such a weak faith that it cannot stand any competiton?
The three victims were found with their throats slit and their hands and legs bound at the Zirve publishing house in Malatya, a city in eastern central Turkey, local Gov. Ibrahim Dasoz said. One was found still alive, and was taken to the hospital but later died, he said. The German Embassy said one victim was German. "I am shocked that a German citizen is among the victims. Even if the exact circumstances of the crime are not yet known, I most strongly condemn this brutal crime,"
Would you have condemned it if a German had not been killed?
German Ambassador Eckart Cuntz said in a statement.... Malatya is known as a hotbed of nationalists, and is also the hometown of Mehmet Ali Agca, who shot Pope John Paul II in 1981.
Who was in the Vatican at the time; not in Turkey.
The Zirve publishing house has been the site of previous protests by nationalists accusing it of proselytizing in this 99-percent Muslim but secular country, Dogan news agency reported.
Again I ask, "Is Islam such a weak faith that it cannot stand competition"
Zirve's general manager told CNN-Turk that his employees had recently been threatened. "We know that they have been receiving some threats," Hamza Ozant said, but could not say who made the threats.
Maybe it was the Joooz. <grin>
The manner in which the victims were bound suggested the attack could have been the work of a local Islamic militant group, commentators said,
Nope, not the Jooz
and CNN-Turk television reported that police were investigating the possible involvement of Turkish Hezbollah

EU aims to criminalise Holocaust denial

FT.com reported Laws that make denying or trivialising the Holocaust a criminal offence punishable by jail sentences will be introduced across the European Union, according to a proposal expecting to win backing from ministers Thursday.
I suspect they will still be just as anti-simetic as they always have been, but they will feel better by admitting the holocaust happened.
Offenders will face up to three years in jail under the proposed legislation, which will also apply to inciting violence against ethnic, religious or national groups.
How about also inciting violence BY religious groups (muslims)
The latest draft, seen by the Financial Times, will make it mandatory for all Union member states to punish public incitement “to violence or hatred directed against a group of persons or a member of such a group defined by reference to race, colour, religion, descent or national or ethnic origin”.
I hope this will not go so far as to forbid criticism of a religion (Islam), or saying something they say "offends them"

All Women Should Wear A Veil

Brussels Journal reported According to Mostafa Chendid of the Danish Islamic Society (Islamisk Trossamfund), not only Muslim women but other women too should wear a veil. Why? Because five up to ten percent of all men cannot control themselves when they see a woman without a veil.
That may be true of Muslim men, who are taught they are superior to women. Perhaps muslim men should be castrated.

Raped for reading Holy Bible

NEWS.com.au reported "The complainant was born a Muslim and raised a Muslim and was a Muslim all her life," Mr O'Brien said. He said when the woman came to Australia from the Middle East she began listening to Christian teachers and reading the Bible.
At least she has been exposed to the truth.
He said the woman - who wears the Muslim hijab - had received threats from members of her faith for reading the Bible but had not converted to Christianity.
Islam calls for apostates to be killed ("Whoever changes his religion, kill him" is called for in Bukhari, Abu Dawud, and many other Haddith that are not online, including Muslim, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, An-Nasai, the Muwatta of Imam Malik, Tayalisi, Ibn Hanbal, Ibn Hibban, the Sunan al-Kubraa, Bayhaqi, Abu Ya'laa, Humaidi, Abd al-Razzaq, and Ibn Abi Shaybah.). I guess rape must be the penalty for just reading the Bible.
It is alleged she met Al Shawany, who she had first met overseas, at Warwick Farm railway station in September 2002 after he told her he had some mail for her from overseas. Al Shawany allegedly then took her to a Warwick Farm unit and pushed her in the head as she entered. "She was wearing a hijab. The accused grabbed the hijab, the veil, and pulled it tight across her mouth," Mr O'Brien told the court. "She fell to the floor and she couldn't scream because she had a hijab tight across her mouth."
Another disadvantage to wearing a hijab.
Al Shawany allegedly raped the woman and later allegedly said: "Let your Jesus help you."
I assure you He will, and the rapist can count on a "hot time" on judgement day. But why just "your Jesus". The Quran mentions Jesus, and calls Him a great prophet. It does not admit that He is the Son of God, but it does recognize Him as a prophet.
In a police interview, Al Shawany denied having sexual intercourse with the woman or threatening her. Al Shawany's barrister Chris Pike told the court his client was a hardworking businessman with close ties to the community who strenuously denied the charges. "My client is not a zealot," Mr Pike said.
No he is just a mild mannered rapist.
The woman gave evidence in closed court yesterday and is expected to return to the witness stand when the trial before Judge David Knox continues today.

Only the beginning

Star Tribune reported Dianna Cusick, MCTC's director of legal affairs, is overseeing the project. She referred me to the Muslim Accommodations Task Force, whose web site she is using as a primary resource. "They've done all the research," she said.
Not all of it. They left out the part about everyone having to accept Islam, or pay a major tax (jizya), or be killed, and the imposition of Sharia law instead of what we have now. But except for that, it is basically a list of their demands. They thought it would go over better if they hid the extreme parts initially.
On the site, I found information about the handful of public colleges that have "wudu," or ritual bathing, facilities. But I also discovered something more important for colleges seeking guidance on "accommodations": Projects like MCTC's are likely to be the first step in a long process. The task force's eventual objectives on American campuses include the following, according to the website: permanent Muslim prayer spaces,
Will they also have permanent Christian prayer spaces? After all Christians outnumber Muslims.
ritual washing facilities, separate food and housing for Muslim students,
Segregation. Is that constitutional?
separate hours at athletic facilities for Muslim women, paid imams or religious counselors, and campus observance of Muslim holidays.
If you want all of that, why not go back to a Muslim country?
The task force is already hailing "pioneering" successes. At Syracuse University in New York, for example, "Eid al Fitr is now an official university holiday," says an article featured on the website.
If that is true, they better recognize Christmas and Easter, and not just as winter and spring break.
"The entire university campus shuts down to mark the end of Ramadan." At Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, Mich., "halal" food -- ritually slaughtered and permissible under Islamic law -- is marked by green stickers in the cafeteria and "staff are well-trained in handling practices."

At Georgetown University, Muslim women can live apart in housing that enables them to "sleep in an Islamic setting," as the website puts it.
Does that mean having a man beat them any time they do something that displeases him?
According to a student at the time the policy was adopted, the university housing office initially opposed the idea, on grounds that all freshman should have the experience of "living in dorms and dealing with different kinds of people." That might sound appealing, Muslim students told a reporter in an article featured on the website. But in their view, the reporter wrote, "learning to live with 'different kinds of people' " actually "causes more harm than good" for Muslims, because it requires them to live in an environment that "distracts them from their desire to become better Muslims, and even draw[s] weaker Muslims away from Islam."
Which may be a good thing. They might find a faith that is not stuck in the eighth century but which has adapted to the 21st century.
The task force isn't operated by overly enthusiastic college students. Its professional staff, based in the Washington, D.C., area, includes coordinators who provide legal advice, teach students to lobby, write letters on their behalf, and help them overcome "obstacles" such as college administrators' concerns about violating the separation of church and state.
They support separation of church and state, they just want entanglements between mosque and state, with mosque in the superior position.
CQ blogged In other words, what we will get from this process of multiculturalism is precisely the kind of "separate but equal" facilities struck down by the Supreme Court in Brown v Board of Education in 1954. These Muslim activists want to create a separate society within the United States for Muslims, and they want the US to provide them the facilities with which to create it. Separate dorms, separate cafeterias, Muslim-only physical-education classes -- they want a separate Muslim college at MCTC and everywhere else. It's self-initiated apartheid.

What does capitulation get you

Jerusalem Post reported Britain's National Union of Journalists denounced Israel on Friday for its "military adventures" in Gaza and Lebanon, called on the government to impose sanctions and urged a boycott of Israeli goods.

Someone should denounce Britain's National Union of Journalists
By a vote of 66 to 54, the annual delegate's meeting of Britain's largest trade union for journalists called for "a boycott of Israeli goods similar to those boycotts in the struggles against apartheid South Africa led by trade unions, and [for] the [Trades Union Congress] to demand sanctions be imposed on Israel by the British government."
Boy I bet the Palestinians should really be pleased. Look at how they show their pleasure.
Yahoo! News reported The BBC and the Foreign Office told AFP they were urgently investigating reports Sunday that kidnapped BBC Gaza correspondent Alan Johnston had been executed. The journalist was snatched at gunpoint last month, triggering protests and campaigns for his freedom.
Is there anyone that still thinks these savages can be reasoned with? All they understand is superior force, such as what Israel has, and is using to defend itself.

Al Qaeda group claims Iraq parliament attack

Khaleej Times reported An alliance of Sunni groups headed by Al Qaeda in Iraq said in an Internet statement on Friday that it carried out a deadly suicide bomb attack inside the Iraqi parliament building. “After studying the area... a hero from the Islamic state of Iraq wearing an explosive belt infiltrated the apostates of the parliament. Allah used his hand to destroy the group of infidels,” the self-styled Islamic Nation of Iraq said in the Internet statement.

Which was it?
  1. a hero from the Islamic state of Iraq wearing an explosive belt
  2. Allah using his hand
Or is "a hero from the Islamic state of Iraq" the "hand of Allah", and is Allah nothing but a terrorist. And since he blew up, does that mean that Allah is now dead?
Thursday’s bombing killed one parliamentarian and wounded 22 other people in the legislature’s cafeteria, the US military said on Friday, revising the previous day’s toll down from eight reported dead and 23 wounded. “The right to legislate belongs to God alone, and whoever disputes that is an apostate.
Does Allah have a one house legislature, or does "he" have a House and a Senate? And who can veto "his" laws, and can "he" override the veto? When God gave Moses the Ten Commandments He wrote them with his mighty finger on tablets of stone. How does Allah document his legislations?
The members of parliament deserve only death,” the Internet statement said. “We delayed the announcement (claiming the bombing) to enable our men to withdraw,”
Why? Couldn't Allah protect them, if they were really doing what he wanted?
it added, also threatening to launch “more violent attacks.”

Double standard

Star Tribune reported Minneapolis Community and Technical College.... officials say the college, a public institution, has a strict policy of not promoting religion or favoring one religion over another. "The Constitution prevents us from doing this in any form," says Dianna Cusick, director of legal affairs. But that seems to depend on your religion.

I suspect it depends on whether adherenants of a religion are ready to use violence to get their way.
Where Christianity is concerned, the college goes to great lengths to avoid any hint of what the courts call "entanglement" or support of the church. Yet the college is planning to install facilities for Muslims to use in preparing for daily prayers, an apparent first at a public institution in Minnesota.

Separation of church and state is clearest at the college during the Christmas season. A memo from Cusick and President Phil Davis, dated Nov. 28, 2006, exhorted supervisors to banish any public display of holiday cheer: "As we head into the holiday season ... "all public offices and areas should refrain from displays that may represent to our students, employees or the public that the college is promoting any particular religion." Departments considering sending out holiday cards, the memo added, should avoid cards "that appear to promote any particular religious holiday."....
If they go through with this plan Christians need to not only demand recognitions of Christmas, but also the constructions of Christian prayer rooms in direct proportion to the number of Christians vs the number of Muslims in the community.
Some local Muslim leaders have advised the college staff that washing is not a required practice for students under the circumstances, according to Davis. Nevertheless, he says, he wants to facilitate it for interested students. "It's like when someone comes to your home, you want to be hospitable," Davis told me. "We have new members in our community coming here; we want to be hospitable."
As long as they don't have to be hospitable to Christians or Jews.
So the college is making plans to use taxpayer funds to install facilities for ritual foot-washing. Staff members are researching options, and a school official will visit a community college in Illinois to view such facilities while attending a conference nearby. College facilities staff members are expected to present a proposal this spring.

In Davis' view, the foot-washing plan does not constitute promotion or support of religion.
So prayer has nothing to do with religion?????
"The foot-washing facilities are not about religion, they are about customer service and public safety," he says.
Does Islam require foot washing before prayer as an honor to Allah, or just for customer service and public safety.
He sees no significant difference between using public funds to construct prayer-related facilities for Muslim students and the cafeteria's provision of a fish option for Christian students during Lent.
Does the cafeteria give the fish away or is there a charge? Will there be a charge to use the foot washing facilities?

Genocide of Jews remains Hamas goal

PMW reported As Hamas seeks international recognition by softening its tone in English, in Arabic it continues the calls for genocide of Jews. In a recent sermon on PA TV, Hamas spokesman Dr. Ismail Radwan made it clear that the classical Hamas ideology had not changed, including its continued incorporation of extremist Islamic beliefs into Hamas ideology and policy. He reiterated:

  1. The Hour – the Islamic Resurrection and End of Time– is literally dependent on the killing of Jews by Muslims.
  2. The remaining Jews will unsuccessfully attempt to hide, as the rocks and trees will expose them, calling out "there is a Jew behind me, kill him!" This is a quote from Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 52, Number 177
  3. "Palestine… will be liberated through the rifle," a euphemism meaning that Israel will be destroyed through violence.
Try it. They have a lot more than rifles.
