Somali Elder

Drudge Report reported With a week to go until the Texas and Ohio primaries, stressed Clinton staffers circulated a photo over the weekend of a "dressed" Barack Obama. The photo, taken in 2006, shows the Democrat frontrunner fitted as a Somali Elder, during his visit to Wajir, a rural area in northeastern Kenya.

Many Presidents and Senators dress in local outfits when visiting other countries, but if he was in Kenya, why dress as a Somali Elder?

(I hope this isn't a duplicate !)
It made me feel guilty, but that photo did make my heart skip a beat. It maybe shouldn't, I don't know.... My gut reaction is that it is like Senator Byrd trying on the tradition SS uniform...

The word "Somali" doesn't just mean the nation of Somalia. It also refers to an ethnic/cultural group who are in Somali, Kenya, Ethiopia, even across the Red Sea in Yemen. The town he was visiting is about 50 miles over the border into Kenya. This is local dress.

If you'll permit me an analogy, this is like seeing someone living in Omaha wear a Kansas City Chiefs cap. Yes, they're not in Kansas City, but they're a part of a group which crosses borders.
