Islamaphobia on rise, especially in Europe

Reuters reported The United Nations investigator on racism on Friday condemned a rising trend of Islamaphobia,
Islam is a religion, not a race. Why is someone concerned with racism worried about reaction to a religion.
especially in Europe, where he said it was being exploited by some right-wing political parties. Doudou Diene, UN special rapporteur on racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related forms of intolerance, also accused Switzerland’s most popular party, the right-wing Swiss People’s Party (SVP/UDC), of inciting hatred. He urged the withdrawal of the party’s controversial campaign poster calling for expulsion of foreigners who commit serous crimes, depicting three white sheep booting out a black sheep under the headline “For the Security of All”.
What is wrong with wanting foreigners who commit serious crimes to be deported?
“In the current context, Islamaphobia constitutes the most serious form of religious defamation,”
That is because most of the violence being done in the name of a religion today is being done by Muslims.
Diene said in a speech and report to the UN Human Rights Council, whose 47 member states were holding a debate on religious defamation. More and more political leaders and influential media and intellectuals were “equating Islam with violence and terrorism,”
Maybe that is because the terrorists all say that what they are doing is pure Islam, and that it is required by the Qur'an.
and some were seeking to “silence religious practices by banning the construction of mosques”, Diene said.
Maybe that is because the clerics in those mosques preach violence.
Pakistan, speaking for the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), called the rise of Islamaphobia “alarming”.
As is the rise of Islamic violence.
“Recent acts of defamation in the shape of blasphemous sketches in Sweden and posters in Switzerland reinforce this conclusion. Such blasphemy should not be encouraged in the name of freedom of expression,” Pakistan’s envoy Masood Khan said.
Violence should not be done just because someone drew a stupid cartoon.
He said the 57-nation OIC, which represents 1.3 billion Muslims, condemned terrorism in all its forms.
But that has not stopped the violence in the name of Islam.
“The international media continues to use the misguided actions of a small extremist minority as an excuse to malign the entire Muslim world, as well as the religion of Islam,” he said.
There is a simple answer to this. Stop the small extremist minorty. Turn them in to the police.

Yeah, and the farmer on Sumatra, the shopkeeper in Tunis, the malaysian businessman, the beggar on the backstreets of Cairo, the farmer in Somalia, the farmer in Iran, the farmer in Morocco, they´re all "in on" the great plot, they all know in which cave Osama is hiding (just like the jews in the 30´s, they all knew about the "grand scheme")! Most of the worlds muslims live on the countryside in some far off region, or the shacks on the outskirts of some megacity like Jakarta, and have never been in touch with any extremist whatsoever. But they still deserve to be bashed, right? Because that poor farmer in the jungles of Kalimantan hasn´t written a long letter to the Washington Post denouncing terrorism! Shame on him!

Al-Qaeda puts bounties on heads of Swedes

European Muslims condemn death sentence

The farmer on Sumatra, the shopkeeper in Tunis, the malaysian businessman, the beggar on the backstreets of Cairo, the farmer in Somalia, the farmer in Iran, and the farmer in Morocco are not in Europe clamoring for a cartoonist to be killed, setting off bombs in trains and busses, killing their women out of "honor" and asking that Sharia law replace the law of the countries of which they are guests.

So, what´s your point? Islamophobia is great because there exists a few extremists?

"Muslim Council of Sweden chief Helena Benouda denounced the threats, saying that Muslim organizations in Sweden were capable of handling the cartoon issue themselves.

"We don't think like this at all. It is criminal to call to kill somebody," said Benouda."

"Two leading European Muslim organizations have condemned the threats issued by al-Qaeda in Iraq on the lives of Swedish artist Lars Vilks and newspaper editor Ulf Johansson.

The Dublin-based European Council for Fatwa and Research labelled the death sentence haram, or prohibited by the Islamic faith, and said it planned to issue a counter-fatwa.

"We don't agree with what al-Qaeda is supposed to have said. We do not agree with killing people like this because this is not in Islam," secretary general Hussein Halawa told Sveriges Radio.

The 29-nation Federation of Islamic Organisations in Europe also distanced itself from the death sentence and said it was working to prevent the conflict from spreading."

But they still deserve to be bashed, don´t they? I mean they´re still muslims... They still 'clamor for the cartoonist to be killed', they still work for sharia law to be introduced in their respective countries, even if they say the opposite. It´s a trick! They´re all crazy extremists! Bill O'Reilly said so, it must be true, he has never told a lie!

Christian massacres or compliancy and assistance in genocide or other atrocities, can never be generalized to say something about christians as a group - while every ill deed committed by a muslim proves that islam and muslims are inherently evil. Wonderful. Extreme subjectivity and a refusal to even try to understand other peoples are, of course, the best way to reach a truthful and constructive understanding of the realities of the world.

Anyone that clamors for a cartoonist to be killed for drawing a cartoon should be bashed.

There is nothing in the first article to tie it to Christianity, and the people attracted to Islam in the second article should realize that if they ever change their minds Muslims will kill them

while every ill deed committed by a muslim proves that islam and muslims are inherently evil

Not every ill deed, just those committed because some cleric tells him the Qur'an requires him to do it.

There is nothing in that article that ties it to Christianity

There´s nothing in the article that ties it to christianity? But Don, we´ve just been carrying out a simultaneous debate here, where you wrote that you didn´t know who Joseph Kony (leader of the LRA - the Lord´s Resistance Army whose atrocities the article deals with) were, and I, in response, gave you the link to Wikipedia´s article about Joseph Kony, which begins like this: "Joseph Kony (born 1962) is the head of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), a guerrilla group that is engaged in a violent campaign to establish a theocratic government in Uganda, based on the Christian Bible and the Ten Commandments."

Remember?

Anyone that clamors for a cartoonist to be killed for drawing a cartoon should be bashed.

Islamophobia isn´t bashing people for threatening to kill a cartoonist, it´s blaming every muslim for the statements made by those who threaten the cartoonist, even though I´ve just showed you that the major swedish muslim organization and two of the leading european ones denounced the threats.

In the same manner, christianophobia would be if I blamed you and everybody sharing the christian faith for the atrocities committed by Joseph Kony and his Lord´s Resistance Army fighters, simply because you are christian just like them!

As far as I know (since I never heard of them before) Joseph Kony and his so called Lord's Resistance Army fighters do not quote scripture from the Bible instructing them to spread Christianity by force. and they certainly have not flown planes into skyscrapers, and he has not set up churches in mainly Muslim countries teaching the locals to blow up buildings or themselves up if they can kill innocents, to try to get the country to adopt the Bible as a source for laws.

[...]
The LRA committed numerous abuses and atrocities, including the abduction, rape, maiming, and killing of civilians, including children.
[...]
The LRA continued to kill, torture, maim, rape, and abduct large numbers of civilians, virtually enslaving numerous children. Although its levels of activity diminished somewhat compared with 1997, the area that the LRA targeted grew.
[...]
The LRA also targeted international humanitarian convoys and local NGO workers.
[...]
The LRA has abducted large numbers of civilians for training as guerrillas; most victims were children and young adults. The LRA abducted young girls as sex and labor slaves. Other children, mainly girls, were reported to have been sold, traded, or given as gifts by the LRA to arms dealers in Sudan.
[...]
In particular, the LRA abducted numerous children and, at clandestine bases, terrorized them into virtual slavery as guards, concubines, and soldiers. In addition to being beaten, raped, and forced to march until exhausted, abducted children were forced to participate in the killing of other children who had attempted to escape. Amnesty International reported that without child abductions, the LRA would have few combatants. More than 6,000 children were abducted during 1998, although many of those abducted later escaped or were released. Most human rights NGOs place the number of abducted children still held captive by the LRA at around 3,000, although estimates vary substantially.
[...]
The LRA rebels say they are fighting for the establishment of a government based on the biblical Ten Commandments. They are notorious for kidnapping children and forcing them to become rebel fighters or concubines. More than one-half-million people in Uganda's Gulu and Kitgum districts have been displaced by the fighting and are living in temporary camps, protected by the army.

BUT, THERE´S NO NEED FOR ALARM! ON THE CONTRARY, THE PEOPLE OF NORTHERN UGANDA SHOULD BE THANKFUL, BECAUSE THE LRA CERTAINLY HAVE NOT FLOWN AIRPLANES INTO SCYSCRAPERS!

Well then, why do individual muslim religious leaders not take responsibility for their brothers in faith´s ill deeds? I´m sure christian leaders would...

(Excerp from BBC article on the Rwanda genocide);

Before the genocide more than 60% of Rwandans were Catholic.

And when the killings started, tens of thousands of Tutsis fled to churches for sanctuary. But they found little protection there.

Churches became sites of slaughter, carried out even at the altar.

On the opposite side of Kigali from Al Aqsa mosque, is the church of Sainte Famille. As dawn mass is celebrated, the sound of hymns carries outside and floats across the waking city.

During the genocide, hundreds of Tutsis crammed inside here trying to escape the horrors unfolding outside. But Hutu militias came repeatedly with lists of those to be killed.

The priest in charge of the church, Father Wenceslas Munyeshyaka, is blamed for colluding with the killers.

Discarding his priest's cassock, witnesses say he took to wearing a flack jacket and carrying a pistol.

"Some members of the Church failed in their mission, they contradicted what they stood for," says Father Antoine Kambanda, director of the charity, Caritas, in Kigali.

He acknowledges that while some priests and nuns risked their lives trying to stop the slaughter, others were implicated in the killings.

"We are sorry for what took place, sorry for the members of the Church that did crimes, sorry for the victims who lost their lives.

"But the Pope says the members who went against their mission are to answer for it. The Church cannot answer for them."

...

But we can´t apply the same standard of morality to THE POPE as we do to muslim imams who claims the individual muslims involved in terror attacks are responsible for them, and not islam as a whole, can we?

I condemn the actions of Joseph Kony and the LRA, and I suspect any other Christian would, once informed what they have done. As I indicated earlier as far as I know he does not quote scripture from the Bible instructing them to spread Christianity by force, and he has not set up churches in mainly Muslim countries teaching the locals to blow up buildings or themselves up if they can kill innocents, to try to get the country to adopt the Bible as a source for laws.

"Forty-eight people were hacked to death near the town of Kitgum in the far north of Uganda on 25 July 2002. Local newspaper reports said elderly people were killed with machetes and spears, and babies were flung against trees. Ugandans were shocked by the brutality of the latest attack by the rebel Lord’s Resistance Army."

"as far as I know he does not quote scripture from the Bible instructing them to spread Christianity by force, and he has not set up churches in mainly Muslim countries teaching the locals to blow up buildings or themselves up if they can kill innocents, to try to get the country to adopt the Bible as a source for laws."

They´re in no position to spread christianity by force to other nations until they´ve conquered their own. Thank god they´re just flunging innocent babies against trees and hacking innocent people to death with machetes in order to make them adhere to the words of the lord, if they had been blowing innocent people up instead, they would have been evil for real (like muslims)!"

What verse in the Bible tells him to do what he is doing, and what Christian authorities defend his interpretation

What verses even in the Old Testament encourage violence against all people (not just a particular group that does not exist today)

In fact what verses in the New Testament encourage violence at all.

Do you need a list of violent verses is Quran or three sources that say they are valid today, and that they even abrogate the peaceful verses
