Katrina Housing

KatrinaHousing and OpenYourHome are websites that allows one to list their house if they are willing to accept Katrina refugees for a while. I am proud to say that there were 5 other Tulsans that had listed their houses when I listed mine.

I emailed the five that had registered before me congratulating them for doing it, and got this answer back from one I have been trying to volenteer in any way possiable but the red tape keeps getting in the way. I called the Red cross on Saterday and said I could work three days straight this weekend at the Ft. in Muskogee and was told that I had to pay 15.00 for the volenteer training class on thursday before I could help in any way. After running my own daycare and haveing three boys of my own it wouldn't take any training for me to be able to prepare food or help with the children of the evacuees. Too much red tape is getting in the way of helping these people. We took up donations for clothing to take down there and we were told by three charities to just give them to the Goodwill all they wanted was cash donations. I am equelly glad to hear that other Tulsa families are willing to help.

HurricaneHousing.org is another such site here, but since it is sponsored by MoveOn.org I did not list with it.

HurricaneHousing.net and this site appear to be commercial enterprises to try to rent houses and apartments.

HurricaneKatrinaInformation seems to be a reasonable site, but I dont see any way to list a willingness to house a refugee.

If you know of any other sites to register with, let me know.
