Desperate Dems try Google Bombing

MyDD announces I would like to announce a second major campaign that I would like to have up and running by Tuesday morning, at the absolute latest. As with Use It Or Lose It, this campaign will need your help to succeed. I have tentatively named it Google Bombing The Election.

The voter fraud campaign is already under way.
The utilization of Google Adwords and simultaneous, widespread embedded hyperlinks in order to drive as many voters as possible toward the most damning, non-partisan
They pretend anything in the Democratic MSM is non-partisan.
article written on the Republican candidate in seventy key US Senate and House races. The campaign will run from Tuesday, October 24th until Tuesday, November 7th. According to the Pew Internet and American Life Project, the number one way that voters use the Internet for political action is to search for information on candidates. During the final two weeks of the election, it is reasonable to expect that as many as twenty million voters will be searching for information on candidates online. During this key time, this project will help push the most negative article written by a non-partisan media source on all key Republican candidates to the forefront of any search for that candidate. The negative article will appear both high on all Google searches for the candidates, and as an advertisement that appears whenever anyone searches for that candidate. By giving this article two prominent locations on Google searches for the candidate, and because it will come from a non-partisan source, it will increase the likelihood that the article will be seen and trusted by those searching for information on the candidate.

The campaign will proceed as follows: Step One: With help form readers at Dailykos and MyDD, I will compile a list of seventy article, one for each targeted race. Every article will focus on a different Republican candidate, and will be written by as generally trusted a news source as possible.
In other words a Democratic Lackie in the Main Stream Media
It will also present as unflattering a view on the Republican candidate as possible. All of these articles will be placed into a database that I will maintain with the help of willing volunteers.

Allah blogged Does the NYT fit the definition of “non-partisan?” Newsweek? Just wondering. If the nutroots are supplying the research, well, you just know it’ll be reliable. I mean, these are people who can’t even Google “Clinton Iraq 1998” to figure out for themselves that the whole “Bush LIED, people DIED” mantra is itself a lie. These are people who can’t rub two search terms together and get link after link between Saddam Hussein and terrorism. These are the people who are going to build a nuclear Google bomb and drop it on the GOP? For some reason, I feel less threatened by this than I guess I should. Their cyber nuke will probably pack all the punch of that North Korean dud.

Nevertheless, it’s good to expose tactics like these. It takes a devious mind to come up with a convoluted way to rig Google search terms, tie that to Google ads and hope to move democracy your way via online hypnosis. What would such a mind do from inside Congress, or the White House?

Sister Toldjah blogged What deep thinkers! Isn’t that just so grownup and mature of the Nutroots to do? Almost as much as Photoshopping a picture of Joe Lieberman in blackface, or a call to “take to the streets” if they don’t win the elections this year. What WILL they think of next? I shudder to think …

IMAO blogged If the Republicans Are on the Ropes, Why Do These Guys Seem So Desperate?

Bill Faith blogged Well. The astrologer’s club is planning to wield mondo Googlebombs in the final days of the election.

Blue Crab blogged This would indicate the answer is "yes". If Joe Lieberman wins in Connecticut, as seems increasingly likely, and if the Dems do not take control of either chamber of Congress, what would be the record of the netroots? They will have failed at every, single thing they have tried to accomplish, don't you think? Why would this silly and desperate plan be any different?

OTB blogged This will be an interesting test of the theory that search king Google’s leftist owners are using their market leading power to intentionally skew search results and news content. Given that this plan to game the system has been publically announced on a very prominent website (Google PageRank 8) and is being widely publicized elsewhere, it should be a simple task for Google to not only thwart this plan but to ban the participants from their metrics.

John Hawkins from Right Wing News suggested the following to counter their efforts

I'm a volunteer with Duckworth. Let me tell you what she's up against. Roskam's fundy backers think they're doing God's work trying to get him elected and there is nothing they won't stoop to, no lie they won't tell to do it.

On top of that the RNC and the NRCC are desperate to hang onto this seat, Henry Hyde's seat in a district that has never once elected a Dem in it's history. The majority of the IL-06 is comprised of DuPage County which their local party likes to brag is the most Republican county in the country. They hold every single elective office here down to the smallest village council. The district is changing our way and they know it. But they fugure if Roskam gets in they can hold the seat thru incumbency for years. We feel the same.

Roskam and the NRCC have been running millions of dollars of commercials all saying the same thing: Tammy wants to give social security and welfare to illegal immigrants and higher taxes for us to pay for it. They call it Ted Kennedy's bill when in fact it's John McCain's. Roskam supports Sensenbrenner's crazy, racist "we'll deport 'em all" bill. These commercials run dozens of times a day on the local evening newscasts and in primetime. He wants Nat'l Guard troops on the border indefinately. I guess that means our citizen soldiers can spend their R&R time in another desert before they ship back out to Iraq as far as he's concerned.

Roskam also has a robocall operation where they call Dems and independents with recordings saying, "I have some important information for you about Tammy Duckworth". At first it sounds like a Duckworth call. Most people hate robocalls and hang up after hearing that much. If they listen to the full msg they get an earful of Repub BS. If not then sometimes the machine immediately calls back, sometimes it happens over the course of the evening. But invariably the people who hang up are flooded with phone harrassment 3 or 4 times a night and they think it's coming from us. This blocks our efforts at volunteer phonebanking. I can't tell you how many times people have screamed "quit calling me!" at me, even our supporters.

We have an effective commercial starring Barack Obama to counter the tv ads but need the money to run it much more than we have. Tammy will be getting some money from a fundraiser in Chicago with Bill Clinton today but it's not enough.

To combat those robocalls we need boots on the ground canvassing these last two weeks, especially the last 4 days of the election. If you come to the western burbs of Chicago we will find you a place to stay. Preferably adults who can foot their own room and board and vets are especially welcome, but any patriotic Americans who can help us get the truth out. We also need cash and lots of it to run those commercials. But even if you can only give a couple of bucks it'll help.

The Repubs can count on their anti abortion, book banning, anti stem cell research fundies coming out to vote. They'll do anything to suppress the Dem and Independent votes Tammy needs to win. They're even whispering she "really" lost her legs in a motorcycle accident.

You can go to Roskam's website and you won't find one word about Iraq, Afghanistan, Al Qaeda or the GWOT. Not. One. Word. I guess for people like him the war doesn't exist.

Folks, Major Duckworth gave her legs for this country when that insurgent rpg blew thru her Blackhawk she was piloting and exploded in her lap. She needs us to be her legs now. Please go to duckworthforcongress.com if you can do anything to help Tammy win this election.

Now I don't expect you to print this Don but you really ought to. Peter Roskam is a personal injury lawyer who makes a nice living doing that. If I slipped and fell on your sidewalk I might hire him to sue your butt but I sure don't want him in congress. Duckworth's father was a career marine and diplomat. She has a bachelors in Poly Sci, masters in Int'l Affairs from the George Wawshington Uni and was finishing up her PhD in the same when she was called up for Iraq. You think long and hard before you delete this message.

Interesting.

Harangue MyDD for the tactic and then do the same thing.

why would anyone want to do that? Why not try going out and supporting the candidate of your choice -- I just wrote a check to Tammy myself.

Why should I do that. I did not see a lot of vulgarity or personal attacks. I disagree with much of what you said, but I don't know enough about IL politics to refute your specifics.

I posted it without the stuff from RCP, but then he emailed asking me to post it, but it gave a good example of what they were doing, so I did. I did not hide so that just the Search Engine spyders would see it, and I dont intend to post it on more than one page. I also don't expect it to significantly change the page rank for any of those search terms.
