Jim Geraghty reported Michael Steele is the new chairman of the Republican National Committee, winning the final ballot with 91 out of 168 votes. Some bloggers and Twitter folk mention Michael Steele as the first African-American to head either party, but that is not the case; Ron Brown was elected to head the DNC in 1989. However, Steele is only the second African-American to head either party
And it is a first for the Republican party, and very appropriate since Obama is in the White House.

"Hey, the Democrats have a black guy in power! We need one, too! How about that Steele fella?"
