Obama picks Biden

Yahoo! News reported The candidate of change went with the status quo.
He knew Hope and Change was wearing thin, and he grabbed for experience, but from someone that has a tendency to stick his foot in his mouth.
In picking Sen. Joe Biden to be his running mate, Barack Obama sought to shore up his weakness — inexperience in office and on foreign policy — rather than underscore his strength as a new-generation candidate defying political conventions. He picked a 35-year veteran of the Senate — the ultimate insider — rather than a candidate from outside Washington, such as Govs. Tim Kaine of Virginia or Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas; or from outside his party, such as Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska; or from outside the mostly white male club of vice presidential candidates. Hillary Rodham Clinton didn't even make his short list.
That is because second fiddle is not supposed to outshine the top, but what will the PUMAs think of Biden?
The picks say something profound about Obama: For all his self-confidence, the 47-year-old Illinois senator worried that he couldn't beat Republican John McCain without help from a seasoned politician willing to attack.
He can't, but will Obama be able to control his attack dog?
The Biden pick is the next logistical step in an Obama campaign that has become more negative — a strategic decision that may be necessary but threatens to run counter to his image.

Not surprised. He picked someone like Biden, because, he was stronger in the areas where Obama was weak....ANON

Now I'm going to change the subject, back to Nuclear Power Plants. They found out that Indian Point is on SEVERAL faults and if there were an earthquake, it could do a lot of damage. Now Don, do you really think this is safe? It is in a heavily populated area and so are the surrounding areas. The damage that could happen could be endless....ANON

Building a nuclear plant or anything else on a fault line is not a really good idea, but there is a LOT of stuff on fault lines in California.

When was the last significant quake in NY, and what was the largest?

Thats not the point. No one knows when a quake will hit. It could hit NY like California, only California is more prepared for earthquakes. NYC is basically built on sand....ANON

We have had minor quakes over the years, nothing significant, but there is always the possibility that a big one could hit NY....ANON

ps I do remember one that hit in the 80's and it felt like a mac truck was going thru my house.

What did the "one that hit in the 80's and felt like a mac truck was going thru your house" do to the nuclear plant?

Then you know it is safe for one that big.

The power plant is suppose to be able to handle a 6.0 on the richter scale, BUT I don't know how much more it could take, and back in the 80's, I don't think people were that worried about Indian Point....ANON

I wish I could post the article, but for some reason, I can't. They found some active faults that are close to Indian Point. They could pose a real threat to New York and beyond (CT)...ANON

But how strong was the one in the 80s

I don't remember exactly, but, I think it was about 4.5 OR 5.5 on the richter scale. Prior to this experience, I had been in Italy, and there was an earthquake in Latina, in the provence of Rome. The house was shaking and we slept outside for 2 days....ANON

As you may know as the numbers on the richter scale goes up, the damage goes up dramatically....ANON - I do remember that the ceiling on the house cracked in Italy.

As far as I know, I didn't experience any damage to my home in NY....ANON

I think I am mistaken - it was about 3.0 on the richter scale, but still could be felt....ANON

The one in Italy was much stronger than the one in NY and NOW I WILL END THIS CONVERSATION! SORRY FOR GOING ON ABOUT THIS!....ANON

Before I vote, I had better take a long hard look at the issues. I wonder who McCain will pick as a running mate....ANON
