KOTV reported A 2002 graduate of Newkirk High School was killed Friday in Iraq. He was serving his second tour and was killed when an explosive device detonated near the Humvee he was riding in. Specialist Jared Hartley was assigned to the 125th Forward Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division, in Fort Riley, Kansas. Alex Hartley says his younger brother was a gunner aboard a Humvee that was targeted near Taji. He says he expects his brother likely took the brunt of the explosion. Jared was 22.
